Ladybird communities in rural woodlands: Does an invader dominate?

چکیده
The invasive alien species Harmonia axyridis (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) was first observed in the UK 2004. Previous studies have demonstrated adverse effects on other of H. during its early stages establishment. However, habitat factors are important determining distribution and population trends ladybirds. Whilst abundance is well known within urban managed habitats, much less about wider countryside. Here we present results surveys from rural woodland habitats to assess whether or not dominates coccinellid communities these habitats. Additionally, explored relationship between aphid All field sites were Cambridgeshire Suffolk, East Anglia, surveyed May October 2016 2017. Three deciduous three coniferous included study. متن کاملBurning in Banksia Woodlands: How Does the Fire-Free Period Influence Reptile Communities?
Fire is an important management tool for both hazard reduction burning and maintenance of biodiversity. The impact of time since last fire on fauna is an important factor to understand as land managers often aim for prescribed burning regimes with specific fire-free intervals. However, our current understanding of the impact of time since last fire on fauna is largely unknown and likely depende...
متن کاملImpacts of a woody invader vary in different vegetation communities
The impact of an exotic species in natural systems may be dependent not only on invader attributes but also on characteristics of the invaded community. We examined impacts of the invader bitou bush, Chrysanthemoides monilifera ssp. rotundata , in fore and hind dune communities of coastal New South Wales, Australia. We compared invader impacts on vegetation structure, richness of both native an...
متن کاملEvidence that chytrids dominate fungal communities in high-elevation soils.
Periglacial soils are one of the least studied ecosystems on Earth, yet they are widespread and are increasing in area due to retreat of glaciers worldwide. Soils in these environments are cold and during the brief summer are exposed to high levels of UV radiation and dramatic fluctuations in moisture and temperature. Recent research suggests that these environments harbor immense microbial div...
متن کاملWhen does "economic man" dominate social behavior?
The canonical model in economics considers people to be rational and self-regarding. However, much evidence challenges this view, raising the question of when "Economic Man" dominates the outcome of social interactions, and when bounded rationality or other-regarding preferences dominate. Here we show that strategic incentives are the key to answering this question. A minority of self-regarding...
